Rise of the Merlin Wall

Posted at 9:04 PM in This Old House.

Perhaps it was the influence of my Teutonic bride-to-be, or perhaps I was just tired of tripping on the holes that kept appearing in the yard, but tonight is a sad night for dog freedom in my backyard.

The people we bought the house from were obviously not the type who spent a great deal of time outdoors, judging by the large bare patches of dirt and sparse smattering of grass that comprised our backyard. To fix this situation, I filled in most of the bare spots with dirt yesterday in preperatation for seeding today. As I raked the yard, Tyra proceeded to burn off some extra calories by doing laps of the yard - which led me to hypothesize that the chances grass being completely trampled = VERY YES.

So with great sadness, I proceeded to divert the garden fence out across the yard to connect with the fence on the other side, essentially cutting the dog off from all the fun muddy pieces of grass seed covered dirt. I have created - THE MERLIN WALL. With both the Gipper and Jean Paul II gone, who can say when this terrible barrier will come down? (Sources say that a good couple weeks of warm weather might do it though.
