Spent the day at an undisclosed location on the Grand River near Elora, Ontario today. Had a 2 hour "tune up" with fly fishing genius Ian James (that was originally meant to be only 45 minutes). Ian tuned my fly casting, then overhauled my whole repertoire of fly fishing techniques. Areas included dry flies, streamers, and finally Czech nymphing.
The last technique was what I later used (in combination with the fly above) to land my first fish of the year, a 6 inch brown trout. All in all I spent 5 hours out on the river today, mainly wandering, and just enjoying the weather (16oC and sunny) and the water.
Here's a picture of our two girls, Tyra, who should be familiar to some, and our newest addition, Ruby. Ruby is a redbone coonhound who came to us from the Lucknow, Ontario-based rescue group Adopt-a-Pet. She's a beautiful girl, about 3 years old. Her and Tyra are getting along fabulously, with much tug-of-war games going on (which Jenn and I mercifully no longer have to partake in). Despite her coonhound pedigree, the cats seem to be safe - she's more interested in the fish swimming in the tank than the cats running by her feet.
Found this visual illusion of a Spanish castle, and it blew me away. So I made up my own following these instructions.
Stare at the dot for 30 seconds. Then, without moving your eyes, move the mouse over the image.
The image will look like it's in color until you move your eyes.

This purple and white crocus popped up through the ground today. As luck would have it, our new Nikon D50 dSLR also came in the mail today - coincidence? I think not.
